Key Responsibilities
1. Process Engineering Activities
The candidate will be expected to engage in a variety of process engineering activities, including:
- Process Calculations: The engineer will perform critical calculations for various processes, ensuring that designs meet operational standards.
- Technical Information/Data Analysis: A significant part of the job involves analyzing data and technical information to make informed decisions.
- Technical Document Review: The candidate will review technical documents such as process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and other key project documentation.
2. Engineering Review and Detailed Engineering Support
The role involves active participation in detailed engineering reviews and providing necessary support in engineering processes. This includes:
- Reviewing Process Drawings: Reviewing PFDs, P&IDs, and related technical documents to ensure compliance with design standards and specifications.
- Reviewing Data Sheets and Schedules: The engineer will review process data sheets, equipment datasheets, line schedules, interconnection piping details, plot plans, and utility flow diagrams to ensure smooth integration of the systems.
- Participating in HazOp Study: The candidate will be involved in Hazard and Operability (HazOp) studies to ensure that safety, environmental, and operational risks are identified and mitigated.
- 3D Model Review: Involvement in the review of 3D models for visualizing process and system layouts, ensuring compatibility with the operational requirements.
3. Technology Selection
Technology selection is a critical part of any engineering project. The process engineer will:
- Prepare Enquiry Documents: Develop detailed enquiry documents for various process units, ensuring that all technical requirements are accurately captured.
- Techno-Commercial Evaluation: Evaluate potential technologies from both a technical and commercial perspective to select the best fit for the project’s needs.
- Internal & External Coordination: Ensure smooth communication with internal teams and external vendors, consultants, and licensors to facilitate the technology selection process.
4. Pre-Feasibility/Detailed Feasibility Reports
The engineer will contribute to the development of pre-feasibility and detailed feasibility reports for potential projects by:
- Providing Process Descriptions: Drafting detailed process descriptions and technology features.
- Utility Descriptions: Outlining utility requirements for new systems or for modifications to existing systems.
- Effluent Management: Incorporating strategies for managing effluents and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
5. Simulation Studies
The engineer will be responsible for validating various operating and design parameters using simulation software. This includes:
- Using Simulation Tools: Utilize simulation software like KBC Petro-SIM, PRO-II, and HTRI to simulate operational conditions and validate system performance.
- Design Parameter Validation: Ensuring that the design parameters of technology packages provided by licensors are optimized for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
6. Conceptual Studies and Optimization
- Analytical & Optimization Work: The engineer will contribute to analytical and optimization studies aimed at improving existing systems and processes.
- Preparation of Business Notes & Presentations: Prepare business notes and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
- Coordination with External Parties: Engage with licensors, consultants, and other external entities to ensure that process designs and recommendations align with best practices.
Qualifications and Skills Required
To be considered for this position, candidates should meet the following qualifications and requirements:
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.E./B.Tech.) in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering or Chemical Technology from a recognized university or institution.
Professional Skills:
- Strong Analytical Skills: The ability to analyze technical data and perform calculations to optimize processes.
- Experience in Process Engineering: Hands-on experience in process design, simulation, and optimization, ideally within the oil and gas or petrochemical sectors.
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with simulation software such as KBC Petro-SIM, PRO-II, and HTRI is essential.
