About the Role

Reliance is seeking a dedicated and skilled Shift Engineer Boarding to join its Marine Operations team at its Jamnagar facility. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in overseeing vessel operations, ensuring safe and efficient loading, managing jetty operations, and optimizing bunkering processes. You will be working with various stakeholders to ensure smooth and timely vessel operations while adhering to safety, compliance, and operational excellence standards.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Vessel Operations and Jetty Management:
    • Work with the Supply and Trading (SNT) and Engineering teams to gather key data for vessel loading.
    • Prepare loading plans that meet customer specifications and ensure the cargo’s temperature and density values are accurate.
    • Coordinate with the Chief Boarding Officer to sign loading agreements and ensure operational clarity with the Panel Officer.
    • Oversee jetty operations and manage multiple vessels during your shift, ensuring they are safely and efficiently docked and loaded.
    • Ensure clear communication with vessel crews, terminal staff, surveyors, and other involved parties.
  2. Cargo Handling and Bunkering Optimization:
    • Analyze vessel size and cargo needs to optimize the loading process and maximize capacity.
    • Organize cargo placement and prioritize loading sequences to ensure the vessel’s stability.
    • Streamline loading operations to minimize turnaround time while maintaining high safety standards.
    • Use manual gauging and dipping methods to verify the quality and quantity of chemicals supplied to vessels.
    • Oversee bunkering operations, ensuring timely fuel supply and proper documentation on the Swachh Sagar Portal.
  3. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Ensure accurate documentation for cargo, including bills of lading and loading reports.
    • Update cargo details in the ISOM system and submit required reports to relevant authorities.
    • Verify shipping documentation to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
    • Maintain organized filing systems for cargo records and ensure timely submission for compliance checks.
  4. Safety and Compliance:
    • Enforce safety protocols during vessel loading to prevent accidents.
    • Conduct safety briefings for boarding teams and involved personnel.
    • Collaborate with safety officers to ensure adherence to marine safety regulations.
    • Regularly monitor loading operations to identify and address any potential safety risks.
    • Ensure all personnel are equipped with necessary safety gear and receive regular safety training.
  5. Policies, Procedures, and Processes:
    • Adhere to company policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions.
    • Continuously evaluate and suggest improvements to operational systems and processes for greater efficiency.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Vessel Loading Timeliness: Ensure that loading schedules are met based on the volume of cargo and vessel availability.
  • Documentation Accuracy: Guarantee that all cargo-related documentation is accurate and submitted on time.
  • Loading Efficiency: Track and optimize the time taken for loading, addressing any discrepancies in cargo volume.
  • Safety Performance: Monitor and reduce the occurrence of safety incidents during the loading process.
  • Bunkering Efficiency: Assess the efficiency and punctuality of bunkering operations to ensure fuel is provided in a timely manner.
  • Compliance in Documentation: Ensure that all cargo records adhere to legal and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

Educational Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, B.E. or B.Tech in a related discipline, or a diploma in Marine Operations.

Experience:

  • Essential: 4-8 years of hands-on experience in marine operations, particularly in vessel loading, jetty management, and bunkering optimization.
  • Preferred: At least 3 years of experience in tanker operations and familiarity with vessel safety protocols.

  • Strong planning and decision-making skills for managing complex vessel operations.
  • Effective communication abilities to liaise with internal teams, vessel crews, and external contractors.
