Hiring Notification – Senior Translation Officers on Deputation/Contract Basis at CBDT

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), functioning under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, invites applications from eligible officers for the post of Senior Translation Officer. These positions are to be filled on a deputation (including short-term contract) basis in the attached and subordinate offices of CBDT across various regions in India. This role plays a vital part in implementing the Official Language Policy and ensuring accurate and efficient translation between Hindi and English in departmental communications.

The recruitment advertisement has been published in the Employment News. The closing date for receipt of applications is within 60 days from the date of publication.

A total of 320 vacancies for the post of Senior Translation Officer are available across different regions. These are tentative and subject to change based on departmental requirements.

Eligibility

A. Service Requirements:

Officers from:

  • Central Government,
  • State Governments,
  • Union Territories,
  • Public Sector Undertakings,
  • Universities,
  • Statutory/Autonomous Bodies, or
  • Recognized Research Institutions

are eligible, provided they:

  1. Hold analogous posts on a regular basis, or
  2. Have a minimum of five years of continuous service in positions designated at Level 6 of the Pay Matrix.

B. Educational Qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree from a recognized University in:
    • Studied Hindi or English as a mandatory or elective subject, or used either language as the medium of instruction during graduation.
    • Hold a degree in any discipline where Hindi and English were either compulsory or elective subjects, or where one of these languages served as the medium of instruction.
  2. Holding a diploma or certification in translation between Hindi and English in both directions.
    OR
    A minimum of two years of experience in translating between Hindi and English in government offices, including organizations under the Government of India.

C. Desirable Qualification:

  • Studied any one of the Eighth Schedule languages (apart from Hindi) at the 10th level.
  • Working knowledge of computers and translation software tools.

D. Age Limit:

  • The applicant’s age must not be more than 56 years as of the application submission deadline.

Salary

The post of Senior Translation Officer carries the pay level as per the 7th Central Pay Commission.

  • Pay Matrix Level – 7
    ₹44,900 – ₹1,42,400 per month (plus other admissible allowances)

Officers on deputation may opt to draw either:

  • Pay in the Level 7 scale, or
  • Pay drawn in the parent cadre with deputation allowance, as per government rules.

Selection Process

The selection will be conducted on the basis of:

  • Scrutiny of service records and eligibility,
  • Recommendations from the parent cadre authority,
  • Vigilance clearance,
  • Assessment of integrity and performance records.

Only candidates whose applications are duly verified and forwarded by the competent authority will be considered for final selection.

Application Process

Step-by-step Process:

  1. Fill the application form in the prescribed format (Annexure-I) with accurate details.
  2. Forward the application through the proper channel (Cadre Controlling Authority or Forwarding Authority).
  3. Ensure the application is accompanied by:
    • Cadre Clearance Certificate,
    • Vigilance Clearance Certificate,
    • Integrity Certificate,
    • Statement of penalties imposed (if any),
    • Duly certified copies of the Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APARs) for the preceding five years.
  4. The application, complete in all respects and properly verified by the forwarding authority, must be sent in duplicate to the designated office of CBDT within 60 days from the date of advertisement publication.
  5. Only those officers who can be relieved immediately on selection should be recommended.
